The Last Shadow Puppets es una banda indie rock compuesta por Alex Turner de Arctic Monkeys y Miles Kanes de The Rascals.En Agosto de 2007, la revista NME anunció que el vocalista principal de los Arctic Monkeys, Alex Turner junto con el vocalista de la reciente banda The Rascals, Miles Kane grabarían un album junto a James Ford como productor y baterista. Turner y Kane se hicieron amigos durante el tour por Reino Unido de los Arctic Monkeys (Mayo-Junio 2005) donde la ex banda de Kane, The Little Frames, participó como telonera. The Little Frames acompaó también a los Artic Monkeys en su tour de 2007, también en Reino Unido, donde Turner y Kane escribieron algunas canciones juntos para un proyecto en colaboración. Dicha colaboración se extendió a tal punto en que Kane participó tocando la guitarra en «505», canción que cierra el album Favourite Worst Nightmare y en los lados B del sencillo «Fluorescent Adolescent», «The Bakery» y «Plastic Tramp». Kane también acompaño a los Artic Monkeys en algunos de sus conciertos del 2007, incluyendo el mini-festival Lancashire County Cricket Club y su aparición en Glastonbury 2007.
El inicio de las grabaciones de su álbum tuvo lugar en Francia a finales de Agosto de 2007 y contó con nuevo material añadido entre Agosto y Diciembre. En Diciembre se unió el violinista Owen Pallett quien, junto a la London Metropolitan Orchestra, se encargaría de los arreglos de cuerdas. Durante la grabación, Turner y Kane contrataron los servicios para producir un filme donde se presentaría toda la historia del proyecto
